Help in Finding a Locksmith in Sydney

Posted on 14th, Apr 2016

When you are in need of a locksmith, you understand the urgency of having a locksmith just a call away. Unfortunately, most property owners don’t have a locksmith just a phone call away. They look in the phone book or on the Internet and start calling around, hoping they select one that is reputable and trusted. Like any other service provider, do your research prior to being in an urgent situation, depending on their services. Consider the following tips to help you find a locksmith.

Tips for Choosing a Locksmith in Sydney, Eastern Suburbs

In an emergency situation often you don’t have the time to research a locksmith. You will thank yourself later if you take the time now to choose a locksmith that you have researched. Consider the following tips:

Firstly, if you have roadside assistance and you are locked out of your vehicle, or the key has broken, contact your roadside assistance service. This will save you the cost of a locksmith service call.

Contact family and friends and ask if they have a locksmith that they recommend. Even in an emergency situation, it is always best to ask for recommendations from ones you trust. If family and friends don’t have a locksmith they can recommend, then turn to the phone book or the Internet. The Internet is suggested in the phone book for one reason. You will have more information at your fingertips. Always look for a local locksmith, ensuring that their number is local to the area you are in, as well as have a physical address listed. Never choose a technician that is not local to your area.

Once you have found a few different locksmiths local to your area, then begin to contact the locksmiths. You will want to ensure that the locksmith is on the up and up, so here are a few more tips to help.

  1. Be certain that the technician answers with their company name. If the technician answers with a generic phrase, then move to the next as they are likely not a legitimate technician.
  2. Ask how the locksmith charges. Does he offer flat fees for services like lockouts? Does the technician charge for traveling? Etc. If the call is one for an emergency need, ask for a quote over the phone. Explain the situation and the need, and as for a fixed priced quote. Be sure to ask if the provider charges any additional fees.
  3. Ask if the provider is licenced, bonded and insured. The provider should be able to offer their licence number, as well as their insurance provider. You don’t want a locksmith who is not licence, bonded and insured as you don’t want to be responsible for any damage that may occur due to his or her work.

When the Locksmith Arrives

When the locksmith arrives, they should be in a vehicle marked with their company logo.

Before you allow the technician into your home, ask for identification. The locksmith should also ask for your identification to ensure that you are the property owner.

Confirm the price of the estimate you were provided. If the technician tells you that it will be a higher price, then send them away.

If you are locked out and the locksmith tells you that the lock must be drilled and replaced, question the technician. Legitimate locksmiths have the tools, knowledge and experience to pick a lock without drilling the lock (which is much more expensive).

Once the technician is finished with his service, as for an invoice that is itemized. It should include parts, labor, mileage and the price of the service call.

If you are happy with the service the locksmith provides, record the number and have it handy for when another issue comes up. As a property owner, having a technician that you trust and can call quickly is important. This will save time, and sometimes money as once you become a loyal customer you may receive discounts.
